A series of four ceramic works inspired by the captivating legends of the Jenolan Caves region. With its enigmatic mountainscapes and ancient underground caverns, this collection delves into the rich narrative of the area. Through exploring the origin of the Devil’s Cave Coach House, which emerged from a farmer’s encounter with a mysterious figure, “a devil driving a coach and four”, I aim to shed light on the historical fears and prejudices of the time (1850’s), where the devil was a name given to Aboriginal people. By creating these artworks, I hope to spark curiosity and provoke reflection on the enduring impact of cultural perceptions.
